I was working for an osteopath who was also a yoga teacher and was a big believer in the power of yoga to heal the body. She taught me sun salutations to do in between clients to keep my body open, but I never had a practice. As a lifetime athlete, I have had many injuries. In my 32nd year, I started to feel injured and “old”. I saw a flyer for Bikram Yoga and decided to try it. I thought it was the most challenging thing I’d ever tried and was immediately hooked. Beyond all of the healing I’ve received in my body my main achievement through yoga has been the calming of my mind, OUTSIDE of the studio. I’ve found that the more I didn’t wipe and fidget and fix in class, the more able I was to not react outside of class. The breathing has helped me as well. I find myself to be a more centered balanced mother, partner, and friend. I like myself and how I relate to others so much more. I hope to one day save enough money to do the teacher training.
